Who can apply for the Apprentice Program?: All of the youth of Ambergris Caye are invited to apply
for consideration to the program.
Will I get a fulltime job offer after successful completion of the program?: ACES will
help by providing recomendations to potential employers however we hope your new job skills will provide the confidence
you need to apply and secure a great future.
Can I go to school and be in the Apprentice Program at the same time?: Most of the apprentice work is
done during the day but it all depends on your chosen area of training and the employer you are matched with.
How much will I be paid while in the program?: You'll be paid $24.40/week ($20.00 stipend + $4.40/week
Social Security) for a period of 12 weeks and paid $2.25 an hour for all hours over 20 hours per week that you work.
How many hours do I have to work each week?: You'll work 20 hours per week of
supervised training for a period of 12 consecutive weeks.
Do I have to pass a test during the course?: There are evaluations during the
apprenticeship filled out by the employer but no write tests, other than ones that may be required by the employer.
I'm not interested in any of the training areas listed. Can I propose an area of training
I'm interested in?: Yes, by all means please let us know what areas you are interested in and we'll see if
any of the island businesses are willing to accept an apprentice.
I have a friend that would like to apply. Can I recommend them to you?: Yes, please do.
We need the word spread about the Apprenticeship Program to all of the island.

A Note From the Mayor:

Through this medium the San Pedro Town Council confirm their full support towards the Apprentice
Program San Pedro Town. The Apprentice Program is geared in helping youths gain hands-on exposure
and basic job training skills that are needed and are essential in today's work field. In order
for an intern to have successfully completed this program they completed 240 hours (12 twenty-hour weeks)
of on the job training in the specific area and 24 hours of general classroom instruction. The apprentice
program is opened to youths between the ages of 15 to 20.
As Mayor of this town we applaud the wonderful efforts that are being done by these volunteers
to steer our youngsters on the right path. The Apprentice Program has proven to be very successful
in their mission and deserve all the support from the community that they can get. Again, we reiterate
our commitment to this program.
